It’s better to give than to receive. That’s what my grandmother always used to say. And as a principle that I’ve tried to live by, my grandmother had lots of lessons for me growing up. But the act of generosity is one of the more valuable ones. I’ll never forget her telling me that being generous, doesn’t really require you’re giving lavish gifts or money, it can be simply means of giving yourself and you don’t have to be rich to give, your gift can be as simple as a smile. As she said, it isn’t a question of whether you’re able to give, it’s whether you will give. So in the context of leadership, there are other gifts that don’t have monetary value, but whose value is beyond price.
